President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has agreed to set the new minimum wage at N70,000.
This decision was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, following a meeting between the organized labour and the government.
“The agreement to raise the minimum wage to N70,000 reflects our commitment to improving the living standards of Nigerian workers,” said Idris.
The meeting included key labour leaders such as Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), and Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
They arrived at the President’s office around 2:15 PM in a white 32-seater Coaster bus, heading directly to the first-floor office where the discussions took place. “This new minimum wage is a significant step towards addressing the economic challenges faced by our members,” commented Ajaero.
Osifo added, “We appreciate the government’s willingness to engage in constructive dialogue and reach a beneficial agreement for all parties.”
