The head coach of Nigeria’s national team, Jose Peseiro, offered insights into their 0-2 loss against Guinea in the pre-Africa Cup of Nations warm-up game. Peseiro attributed the defeat to experimenting with a new 3-4-3 formation instead of their usual 4-4-2, stating, “We tested a new system today, and I believe we performed well in the first half.”

Expressing disappointment over missed opportunities, including a penalty and clear chances, Peseiro felt they deserved more in the first half. He acknowledged the challenge of facing a team with speed and a strong counter-attack, leading to a loss of midfield balance, prompting a formation shift to 4-3-3.

Acknowledging his decision to field a different lineup from the team that secured a 12-0 win over Dubai’s selected side, Peseiro mentioned, “I tried to manage the team differently in these matches, not showcasing the first eleven. The second half was tougher, and despite the effort throughout the week, it didn’t reflect well in the game.”

This explanation came from Peseiro in response to the disappointing 0-2 loss to Guinea.
