…as the House of Reps member urges Journalists to Uphold Ethics and Truth in Reporting
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State Chapter, has honored Hon. Stanley Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo, with an award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to grassroots sports development. Hon. Olajide represents the Ibadan Southwest/Northwest Federal Constituency.
The award was presented during the SWAN Oyo State Chapter’s symposium, held at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, in appreciation of his immense support for sports development.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of SWAN, Oyo State Chapter, Ayomiku Ajibola, stated that Hon. Olajide’s recognition reflects the association’s commitment to acknowledging and rewarding excellence in sports development. He assured that SWAN would continue to collaborate with stakeholders like Hon. Olajide to promote sports and empower young athletes in Oyo State.
Ajibola commended Olajide’s dedication to fostering sports development, highlighting his efforts in creating opportunities for young athletes to excel in their respective fields.
In his remarks, Hon. Olajide expressed his gratitude to Oyo SWAN for the recognition, describing it as a great honor. He also took the opportunity to urge journalists to uphold the ethics of journalism and remain steadfast in speaking the truth to those in authority.
He emphasized the vital role of a free press in a democratic society, noting that journalists serve as a check on leaders by holding them accountable for their actions.
Hon. Olajide encouraged the SWAN Oyo State Chapter to remain committed to the principles of truth and fairness, even in the face of challenges and intimidation.
The award presentation and symposium, a bi-monthly event, aims to educate sports journalists in Oyo State on accurate reporting while recognizing individuals who have contributed to sports development in the state.
