A new, Tinder-inspired game discovery platform has been revealed, with Ludocene currently raising funds on Kickstarter.
“With 1000s of releases every month, loads of amazing games get lost in the noise. With your backing, our new Ludocene web app aims to reimagine video game discovery,” starts the Kickstarter campaign, with Ludocene described as “a dating app that matches you with games rather than people”
The project, which has currently raised £8730 of its £26,000 target, will allow users to scroll through a number of different cards, each one representing a different video game. You can swipe up if you’re not interested, or swipe down to add them to your deck of favourites. From there, Ludocene and its team of video game experts will then recommend other games you might enjoy. “Every choice refines the stream of games offered as you hunt for your next game.”
“It feels like you’re playing a game, where winning is discovering video games that perfectly match your tastes,” explains the Kickstarter. “Build your perfect deck of games you love, pick experts whose taste you trust and discover your best matches in the tailored suggestions.“
Developers plan to launch Ludocene six months after the project is funded, and it will be free-to-use. However paid subscribers will also be offered more ways to build their deck.
“We don’t want a corporate backer. We want Ludocene to be free to use. But we also want to pay experts for their curation with an up-front payment for their time and then a share of any profits,” explained developers. “Kickstarter backing will set us up to keep Ludocene independent. We will be able to make the right decisions for how it develops and grows. We will be able to be led by the gaming community and our users rather than advertisers or big business.”
In other news, Warner Bros. has confirmed their Wonder Woman game has been scrapped in favour of more Harry Potter and Game Of Thrones titles.
