President Bola Tinubu has appointed new heads for two of Nigeria’s key intelligence agencies, the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been named the new Director-General of the NIA, while Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi will take over as the Director-General of the DSS.
This development was announced by the President’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, in an official statement.”
Ambassador Mohammed has had an illustrious career in the foreign service since joining the NIA in 1995,” Ngelale stated. “He has served in various roles, ultimately being promoted to the rank of Director, and was most recently the head of the Nigerian mission to Libya.”
The statement further highlighted Mohammed’s extensive experience, noting that he is a 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano, with service records in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House, Abuja.
Meanwhile, the new DSS Director-General, Mr. Adeola Ajayi, has risen through the ranks of the agency, recently holding the position of Assistant Director-General. His career has seen him serve as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.
These appointments follow the resignation of the previous heads of the NIA and DSS.President Tinubu expressed his expectations for the new leaders, urging them to “work assiduously to reposition the two intelligence agencies for better results.”
He emphasized the importance of their experience in addressing the nation’s security challenges, calling for enhanced collaboration with other agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
In his statement, President Tinubu also extended his gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavors.
