The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Aliu Tijani, a welder who allegedly assisted a suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, in cutting off his handcuffs after escaping from police custody.

Lagos Welder Arrested for Aiding Escape of Suspected Cultist from Police Custody

This development comes after the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed on Sunday that Wasiu Opeyemi had been previously arrested in 2021 but managed to flee from police custody.

According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspect was recaptured by officers of the Lagos State Police Command just last week.

The PPRO, in a tweet via @BenHundeyin, stated, “Suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, escaped from police custody in August 2021 in handcuffs.

“Last week, he was re-arrested alongside Aliu Tijani, the welder who cut off the handcuffs when he escaped the first time.”

Both individuals involved in the incident have been arraigned and are currently being held in remand.
