An unconfirmed report has indicated that dozens of suspected bandits may have drowned after a boat conveying them capsized in the Sabon Gida area of Sokoto State.
According to counter-insurgency reporter Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the incident on Facebook, the tragedy occurred on Saturday evening, March 21, when a vessel carrying a large number of armed men overturned while crossing a waterway in the area.
Sources said the bandits were travelling in large numbers when the boat suddenly capsized, throwing all occupants into the water.
“Preliminary information suggests that many of them could not swim, leading to heavy casualties,” a source revealed.
Early reports further suggested that none of the occupants survived the mishap, though security agencies are yet to officially confirm the incident as of the time of filing this report.
