The Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN), the umbrella body of Television, Radio and Online Content Owners/Producers/Providers in Nigeria is gearing up for yet another superlative outing for the 2nd edition of their 3-in-1 international event tagged NEMCEA which is an acronym for Nigerian Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards. NEMCEA is a three-fold mega event featuring Exhibitions/Content Market, Conferences and Awards.

According to the President of EMCOAN, Mrs. Jibe Ologeh, she said “ we aim to build on the successes of NEMCEA 2022 and do more in 2023 including strengthening strategic relationship with stakeholders, developing the Nigeria Content Market Industry, bridging the gap that affects our businesses and finding solutions amongst many other projections” she averred.

The maiden edition of this one-of-a-kind industry event took place in August 2022 at the prestigious Radisson Blu Hotel, Isaac John Ikeja, Lagos. The 3-day event had in attendance creme de la creme of industry stakeholders, industry regulators, content aggregators, local and international exhibitors as well as other key players in content production and marketing.

Some of the sponsors, partners and exhibitors to the 2022 edition were Creative Nigeria Summit (CNS), Zee Entertainment (Zee World), Radisson Blu Hotel, the Ministry of Information and Culture, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) amongst others. NEMCEA 2022 afforded content producers and aggregators first hand opportunity to interact and exchange values. In one of the featured curated sessions, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) leveraged on the conference to task content producers on the need to pay more attention on children-oriented programmes. They observed that a lot of foreign programmes and cartoons have taken over our airspaces and beclouded our time cherished cultural values.

The highpoint of the event was the award and recognition ceremony which took place on the third day of the event. Some of the awardees were – Dr. Peter Igho, Mr. Wale Adenuga MFR, Mr. Tajudden Adepetu and Mr. Theophilus Akatugba (As Industry Pacesetters). Others were Adebowale Debo Adedayo (a.k.a Mr. Macaroni) and Samuel A. Perry aka Broda Shaggi for the Outstanding Performance In Online Short Comedy Creation (Male category) while Ms. Emmanuella Samuel of Mark Angel Comedy and Maryam Apaokagi- Greene a.k.a Taaooma both won the female category. The winners of the Best Actor and Actress for TV/Web Drama Series were Gabriel Afolayan and Tana Egbo-Adelana respectively. The Goge Africa TV show produced by Ambassadors Isaac and Nneka Moses was given Special Recognition as Outstanding Tourism and Cultural Programme on TV while Zee Media Services TV Drama production titled “The Closets” won the Best Over All Drama Series for the year amongst many others. The huge success of the first edition is the great catalyst propelling the preparations for the 2nd edition. This explains why big names in global content production and marketing that were part of the maiden edition have already indicated interest in participating at the 2nd edition.

According to Alayande Stephen T., the Project Director, NEMCEA 2023, he said ” we are propelled to further engage Industry stakeholders and continuously bring to fore discourse, perspectives and salient issues that are of paramount concerns to the Africa Content economy. The Sponsors, Partners, Speakers, Panelists for NEMCEA 2023 and shortlisted Nominees for the Awards will be made known to the public very soon during the Media Unveil/World Press Conference” he averred.

This year’s event which is focused on Revitalizing Traditional Broadcast Media in Nigeria, will also explore roles of industry stakeholders like Content Producers, Advertisers, Broadcast Media, Regulators etc and it is scheduled for August 22nd to 24th at the prestigious Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria. Registration has already opened for participants, exhibitors and buyers at www.nemcea.com/register while entries for submission of (TV, Radio & Online content only) for the various award categories is also open at www.nemcea.com/awards respectively. Entries for the various award categories would close on July 15, 2023 while registration for participation and sponsorship continues.
