Aspirants vying for the APC ticket in the upcoming governorship election in Edo state have been advised against investing their resources in pursuing their ambitions if they are unwilling to adhere to the party’s zoning arrangement.

Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, the South-South Zonal Organizing Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), conveyed this message in a statement released on Friday in Abuja.

In the statement, personally signed by Agbomhere, he emphasized that any complaints from aspirants who fail to secure the party’s ticket would be viewed as a waste of time and a distraction from the party’s goal of reclaiming the Governorship seat in Edo state.

Agbomhere further stated that the All Progressives Congress is committed to upholding justice, fairness, and equity, in order to maintain the unity and peace that has long prevailed among the Binis, Esans, and Afenmais—the three major ethnic groups in the state.

While acknowledging the rights of the Afemais in Edo North and the Binis in Edo South to aspire to the governorship seat, Agbomhere stressed that the ultimate decision lies with the people.

He made it clear that in the upcoming Edo 2024 elections, no individual will have the power to unilaterally impose a candidate on the people. The choice of the Governor will be made by the people themselves, with the condition that the selected candidate must possess an untarnished record of patriotism, sacrifice, and community service.

Agbomhere, as the APC South-South Zonal Organizing Secretary, reiterated that the party intends to grant the Esans of Edo state the right of first refusal for the party’s ticket in the 2024 Edo Governorship polls, unless there are any unforeseen last-minute changes in the prevailing circumstances.
