The inaugural Ekomi Awards took place at the prestigious Sheraton Lagos on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
The event celebrated numerous civil servants, public servants, and private individuals for their dedication to the development and progress of Lagos State.
“The transformation of Lagos State through government initiatives and the contributions of private organizations and individuals inspired me to create this award,” said Otunba Bestman Nze, the convener of the awards and publisher of Eko Mi, Eko E.
Eko Mi, Eko E is dedicated to positively projecting Lagos and highlighting areas where the government can further bring dividends of democracy to the people.
Award recipients included renowned footballer Chief Segun Odegbami (MON) as Sports Icon of the Year, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi as the Most Stylish King, and Hon. James Abiodun Faleke as the Outstanding Politician of the Year. Journalist Hangout was named TV Program of the Year.
Ojodu and Amuwo Odofin received awards for Best Local Government in Infrastructure and Education, while the Executive Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, was honored as Best Chairman of the Year for Empowerment and Youth Development. Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi of the Ministry of Transportation was named Commissioner of the Year.
A cheerful and passionate officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Oluwasegun Timothy, received cash donations of N1.2 million at the event. He was honored with an Award of Excellence for his enthusiastic approach to directing traffic in Lagos.
The highlight of the awards dinner was the conferment of the Omo Eko Pataki Award on Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwoolu.
