A 51-year-old food influencer, Emma Amit, has reportedly died after consuming a poisonous crab known as a “devil crab” while filming content for her social media platforms.
According to a report by the New York Post, Amit passed away on February 6, 2026, in the Philippines shortly after eating the crab, which is said to contain powerful neurotoxins. The incident occurred as she attempted to create viral food content for her followers.
Medical sources explain that neurotoxins attack the nervous system by disrupting nerve signals, often blocking ion channels or interfering with neurotransmitters. This can lead to paralysis, seizures, respiratory failure and, in severe cases, death. Toxins such as tetrodotoxin (TTX) and saxitoxin, commonly associated with certain species of crabs and pufferfish, are among the most dangerous.
Authorities and health experts have warned against consuming unfamiliar or exotic marine species without proper identification and preparation, stressing that some animals that appear edible can be fatally toxic.
The tragic incident has reignited concerns over the risks influencers take in pursuit of online attention and the need for greater public awareness about food safety and marine toxins.
