Former allies Japheth Omojuwa and Bashir El-Rufai have locked horns in a heated online battle following the defection of Bashir’s father, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The fallout between the two former friends played out on social media, marked by personal insults, accusations of hypocrisy, and even an iPad giveaway.

Omojuwa, a political commentator who once supported the El-Rufai family, appeared to realign himself with Governor Uba Sani following Nasir El-Rufai’s exit from APC. This shift didn’t sit well with Bashir, who took a veiled jab at Omojuwa on X (formerly Twitter).

“I knew we should never have dashed this individual an iPad when he used to wait at our gatehouse desperately seeking an audience. Now we have created a hypocritical and duplicitous monster,” Bashir tweeted, implying that Omojuwa had been opportunistic in his political allegiances.

In a swift clapback, Omojuwa fired back with sarcasm, announcing an iPad giveaway to his followers.

“I will be donating 8 iPads to 8 of my followers. Can you guess why 8 iPads? Lol… It’s a gift. You don’t owe me for a gift you never asked for,” he wrote, turning Bashir’s jab into a public spectacle.

The exchange quickly escalated, with Bashir questioning Omojuwa’s credibility and Omojuwa dismissing Bashir as politically irrelevant. Social media users weighed in, some accusing Omojuwa of betrayal, while others mocked Bashir’s fixation on an old favor.

Political analysts suggest that this feud is more than just a personal squabble—it reflects growing tensions within the APC, as Nasir El-Rufai’s defection shakes up internal dynamics. As the drama unfolds online, the bigger question remains: what does El-Rufai’s political shift mean for the party’s future?
