Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has announced the reinstatement of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi as the Emir of Kano. The announcement followed the signing of the new emirate council law at Government House, Kano, on Thursday.

The governor signed the law at exactly 5:10 pm, accompanied by his deputy, the Speaker of the State Assembly, and other principal officers of his administration.

Sanusi was previously dethroned in 2020 by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje after a personal rift. Prior to removing Sanusi, Ganduje had split the Kano emirate into five separate entities: Kano, Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye.

However, on Thursday, the Kano House of Assembly repealed the law that created these new emirates. The new law stipulates that all offices created under the repealed law are dissolved, and district heads appointed or elevated under the previous law will revert to their former positions.

The Commissioner for Local Government has been tasked with overseeing all transitional arrangements, including managing the assets and liabilities of the abolished emirates and the new structures created under the repealed Principal Law dated December 5, 2019.

Additionally, all affected emirs of the five emirates have been directed to hand over properties in their possession to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
