The marriage between Bodunrin and his wife, Pero, has officially ended after a series of domestic altercations in their Oyo State home, culminating in Bodunrin filing for divorce.

Bodunrin brought the case before the Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, requesting the dissolution of their relationship. His plea was granted by the Court.

“I have not enjoyed peace of mind due to my wife’s constant fighting and violent behavior,” Bodunrin testified. “I made a mistake marrying her. She’s always picking fights, and it got to the point where I dreaded coming home after work.”

Recounting a particularly distressing incident, Bodunrin said, “She attacked me in the middle of the night over a trivial issue. The next morning, I moved out, but she followed me to my shop, where she slapped me and tore my clothes in front of everyone. After that, I knew I was through with the marriage.”

Pero, however, opposed the divorce and claimed that her mother-in-law had her wrongfully arrested. “Instead of helping us resolve our issues, my husband’s mother had me detained by the Police,” she told the Court. Pero also alleged that Bodunrin might be involved with another woman, which she believed was the real reason he was seeking a divorce.

Despite her protests, the Court President, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, dissolved the union. The Court granted custody of the children to Pero, with Bodunrin responsible for their welfare. Additionally, an order was issued restraining Pero from threatening or interfering with Bodunrin’s private life.
