The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, is in mourning following the sudden passing of veteran journalist, Elder Ambrose Sule Inusa, who died on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the age of 70.
Elder Sule reportedly passed away while being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gwarinpa, Abuja, after a brief illness. His death came just one day before what would have been his 70th birthday, on May 5.
A seasoned journalist, Elder Sule began his career with the Nigerian Observer newspaper and went on to serve as Chief Press Secretary to the Minister of Information during the Second Republic, Garba Wushishi. He was also a former Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council’s Press Centre Management Committee.
Until his death, he was the publisher of Nigerian Environment Newspaper and CEO of FirstAll Online Media.
Elder Sule hailed from Apana in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State. He is survived by his wife and five children.
Describing his death as a shocking and painful loss, the NUJ FCT Council said Elder Sule was more than a colleague; he was a friend, mentor, and dedicated member of the union. His humility, kindness, and unwavering professionalism earned him respect throughout the media community.
“He was an exemplary journalist who carried out his duties with diligence, integrity, and commitment to ethical standards,” the union stated in a condolence message signed by its Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle.
The Council noted with regret that his death came just as plans were being finalized for a new policy initiative aimed at improving the welfare and healthcare of elderly journalists.
“Elder Sule was a peacemaker and a pillar within the union whose contributions and legacy will not be forgotten,” the statement read.
The NUJ FCT Council extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and all those touched by his life and work, praying for comfort and strength to bear this great loss.
