Minister Olawande Sparks Debate Over Seyi Tinubu’s Potential Governorship Bid…
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has fueled ongoing speculation surrounding the possibility of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, becoming the next Governor of Lagos State.
In an interview with Seun Okinbaloye, Olawande openly praised Seyi Tinubu’s leadership qualities and suitability for the role, referring to him as a mentor and a capable leader. “He is not too young to become a governor, that’s the truth,” Olawande said. “Seyi is a well-trained young man who has built and supported many young Nigerians, even when his father was not the president.”
Addressing the endorsement by groups campaigning for Seyi Tinubu’s candidacy, Olawande dismissed claims that the president’s son is behind the movement. “Seyi is not the one engineering the campaign to become the next governor of Lagos State,” the minister clarified.
Olawande further noted that public figures often become subjects of speculation. “Everybody has the tendency to become whatever he or she wants to become. This is what I’ve understood—when you’re popular or have one or two things to do, people will say a lot about you.”
Despite the widespread attention, Seyi Tinubu has yet to publicly confirm or deny any political aspirations, leaving Lagosians in suspense ahead of the 2027 general election.
The campaign for him to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been ongoing since 2024, with no definitive word from the president’s son.
