Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation

The Federal Government has announced a significant development for Nigerian travelers. As of today, July 15, 2024, Nigerian passport holders can now obtain visas for travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, confirmed the news on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, stating, “The UAE has officially lifted the visa ban on Nigerian passport holders, allowing for the resumption of travel between our two nations.”

Idris highlighted that this progress follows successful talks and extensive negotiations between Nigeria and the UAE. “These discussions have led to updated controls and conditions for obtaining a UAE visa, ensuring a smooth process for our citizens,” he added.

Under the new regulations, Nigerian passport holders must first obtain a Document Verification Number (DVN) before applying for their visa.

The UAE Document Verification Hub explained, “This requirement ensures that all necessary documents are digitally verified and authenticated prior to visa issuance. However, individuals under the age of 13 are exempt from needing a DVN for their visa applications.”

This agreement marks a new chapter in Nigeria-UAE relations, promising enhanced travel and cooperation between the two countries.
