Dr. Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), affirmed, “The voice and data services affected by the cable cuts have been restored.”
This statement was made in a release issued on Monday in Abuja, where Muoka detailed the restoration efforts following the disruption on March 14.
The interruption, stemming from cuts in undersea fiber optics along the coasts of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal, impacted both data and voice services.
Muoka expressed satisfaction, stating, “We are pleased to announce that services have now been restored to approximately 90 per cent of their peak utilization capacities.” He further elaborated that operators affected by the cuts had leveraged recovery capacity from unaffected submarine cables.
Additionally, Muoka highlighted that mobile network operators (MNOs) have assured the commission of the optimal operation of data and voice services until full repairs of the undersea cables are completed. In response to the situation, MNOs activated alternative connectivities to normalize operations.
Muoka concluded by extending appreciation to telecom consumers for their patience and understanding during the downtime caused by the undersea fiber.
