Renowned Nollywood Director Dimeji Ajibola Passes Away After illnes
Celebrated Nollywood director and producer, Dimeji Ajibola, has passed away. Ajibola, known for his creative works in both film and advertising, died on Sunday following a battle with an undisclosed illness.

The announcement was made by his friend and colleague, Samuel Olatunji, who shared the news on his social media. “Dimeji Ajibola was my client and friend. So sad to hear this news. Rest in peace to a great guy! Sad Sunday as the director of Shanty Town passed away,” Olatunji posted, expressing his sorrow.

Ajibola’s career spanned more than 18 years, where he left an indelible mark in both film and advertising. Beginning as an animator, he helped bring high-quality animated advertisements back to Nigeria, creating notable TV ads for brands like MTN and Coca-Cola. His dedication to homegrown creativity earned him a reputation as a pioneer who could translate big ideas into compelling visuals.

As the CEO and Technical Director of Flipsyde Studios Ltd., Ajibola was behind Nigeria’s first urban musical film, Hoodrush, released in 2012.

The film won multiple awards, including Best Movie at Germany’s Green Me Film Festival, Best Actor and Soundtrack at the Nollywood Movies Awards, and Best Supporting Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

His work in Hoodrush was widely celebrated for merging strong narrative storytelling with musical depth, making a lasting impact on Nollywood’s creative landscape.

Ajibola’s legacy lives on through his contributions to film and advertising, inspiring a generation of storytellers and creatives.
