A chaotic scene unfolded at Tansian University after students allegedly caught a lecturer, believed to be a Catholic priest, engaging in sexual activity with a female student inside a classroom.

A viral video circulating on X and seen on Tuesday captured the moment an enraged crowd of students confronted the middle-aged man on campus. In the footage, the students were seen assaulting him and tearing off his clothes until he was nearly naked.

The video was shared by X user @emmaikumeh, who claimed the incident happened within the Catholic-owned institution in Oba, Anambra State.

Although the exact date of the incident remains unclear, sources within the university alleged that the students may have deliberately set a trap for the lecturer following repeated accusations of inappropriate conduct toward female students.

“It seems they finally decided to catch him in the act,” a student who spoke anonymously said. “People have been talking about his behaviour for a while, and this time, there was no escape.”

Claims that the man involved is a Reverend Father have continued to spread across social media. However, his identity and clerical status have not been independently confirmed. While students in the video could be heard shouting titles commonly associated with Catholic clergy, no official documentation identifying him as a priest has been released.

The incident has sparked outrage and debate both within the university community and online, with many condemning the alleged misconduct while others criticised the mob action.

One X user, @TheUnitedLegon, wrote:

“Why did you become a priest if you can’t keep the vow?? Why not just be a pastor, get yourself a wife and have kids instead of living a life of lies.”

Another user, @chuks1994, condemned the violent response from the students:

“They’d never attack politicians like that. Because he’s clergy, they dared to lay hands on him. Was he raping the student? I hate what this country has become.”

A third user, @snnade, downplayed the allegations, writing:

“There’s no crime here now! Just a sin before God who is willing to forgive.”

As of the time of filing this report, neither Tansian University nor Catholic Church authorities had issued an official statement regarding the incident, the identity of the lecturer, or possible disciplinary measures.

The Anambra State Police Command has also yet to confirm whether any arrests have been made in connection with the assault or whether a formal complaint has been filed.
