Over 30 people were killed and more than 100 sustained injuries after female suicide bombers attacked Gwoza local government area in Borno State.
The Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, confirmed that multiple suicide bombings occurred at various locations, including a wedding reception and a burial ceremony in Gwoza town.
“These coordinated incidents caused widespread panic as people scrambled for safety,” the Emir stated. Sources reported, “More than 30 people were killed, and over 100 sustained injuries. Many victims have been evacuated to Maiduguri for medical attention.”
The Emir elaborated, “The entire Gwoza council area is in mourning following multiple suicide attacks on our community. The first attack was carried out by an unidentified woman who, along with two children, infiltrated a wedding reception of a popular young man in Gwoza. She detonated her Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), killing herself and many others.
“A few minutes later, another suicide bomber targeted a nearby burial ceremony and detonated IEDs. As I speak, a third explosion occurred just a few minutes ago, causing more casualties. “At least 100 people were injured. Those with serious injuries have been rushed to Maiduguri with a military escort for proper medical attention.
“This is a preliminary confirmation, as details of the casualties are still being gathered, but I will keep you updated on any developments,” the Emir stated.
