Prominent journalist and MetroNews publisher, Otunba Femi Davies, was apprehended by the Department of Security Services (DSS).

He was taken into custody at the DSS headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday. An associate revealed that Davies had been invited for questioning by the DSS on Friday and complied willingly, believing in his status as a law-abiding citizen and dedicated journalist.

Surprisingly, since his arrival at the Ogun State DSS Command, Davies has been held without communication with the public, family, or associates, which has raised concerns. The associate strongly criticized the DSS, arguing that journalism is not a crime and that the actions taken are illegal and an abuse of power. They cited relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution that protect individuals’ rights in such cases.

The associate vehemently condemned this abuse of power, expressing outrage over the law enforcement agency’s willingness to be used for intimidation and state repression. Prior to this incident, Davies played a role in the Media and Publicity Directorate of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC) in Ogun State, supporting President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He also holds leadership positions in the Society of Digital Newspaper Owners of Nigeria (SDNON) and has enjoyed a successful career in public relations, publicity, and brand management for nearly three decades.
