Hon. Dare Adeleke has described the governor’s declaration to contest the 2027 presidential election as a defining moment for Nigeria’s democracy and a major shift in the country’s political landscape.
Governor Makinde formally declared his ambition to run for the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria during the historic PDP/APM Unity Mega Rally held on Thursday at the iconic Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
Reacting to the announcement, Adeleke, a chieftain of the Oyo PDP, said the declaration was remarkable because of its significance, timing, and the overwhelming national support that preceded it.
“His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde’s declaration to run for President in 2027 represents another important milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey,” Adeleke said.
“After listening to repeated calls from patriotic Nigerians across the country urging him to offer himself for national service, Governor Makinde finally made that historic announcement today. It is a bold move that will undoubtedly reshape Nigeria’s political direction at a time when many believe the APC has pushed the nation to the brink.”
He described the gathering at Mapo Hall as more than a political rally, saying it reflected the emergence of a formidable political coalition determined to rescue Nigeria from its present challenges.
“What we witnessed at Mapo Hall today was the coming together of two strong political parties, united in purpose and fully prepared for the task ahead.
“As Governor Makinde himself made clear, this presidential bid is not merely about political power. It is a necessary intervention aimed at rescuing Nigeria from its current economic hardship, insecurity, and deepening social crisis.”
Adeleke further described Makinde as the most qualified candidate to lead Nigeria at this critical period, citing his performance and achievements as governor of Oyo State.
“Seyi Makinde is a leader who has worked tirelessly for the people of Oyo State and delivered the dividends of democracy exceptionally well. He has transformed infrastructure, education, healthcare, road networks, and economic development. The achievements are visible everywhere, and his legacy continues to grow.
“He is a man of proven competence, courage, intellect, and emotional stability. At this critical point in our national history, he has demonstrated the sagacity, brilliance, administrative experience, and temperament required to lead Nigeria.”
According to Adeleke, Makinde has also distinguished himself as one of the leading opposition voices standing firmly against what he described as the failures of the APC-led Federal Government.
“He has stood courageously against the excesses of the APC and remains one of the strongest pillars of coalition movement you saw today,” he said.
Commenting on the turnout at the rally, Adeleke said the massive crowd reflected the governor’s growing national appeal across political, ethnic, and religious lines.
“The crowd at Mapo Hall today was extraordinary. People from all walks of life, different religions, backgrounds, and regions of Nigeria converged in Ibadan. That alone speaks volumes about the popularity and acceptance of Governor Makinde’s presidential declaration.”
He concluded by assuring Nigerians that supporters of the governor were fully committed to ensuring his emergence as Nigeria’s next president.
“We are fully prepared and willing to work tirelessly until Engr. Seyi Makinde becomes President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
