LAGOS, Nigeria – Streaming giant Netflix has announced an increase in its monthly subscription fee for users in Nigeria, raising the standard plan to ₦8,500 effective from July 4, 2025.

The price adjustment comes as part of a broader global pricing review, with the company citing rising operational costs and a commitment to improving content quality as reasons for the hike.

Subscribers in Nigeria have previously enjoyed one of the most affordable Netflix plans globally. However, this change marks a significant shift, and many local users have taken to social media to express concern over the affordability of the service amidst ongoing economic challenges.

Netflix has yet to confirm whether other subscription tiers, such as the Basic or Premium plans, will also see increases.

The company assured users that the new pricing will support continued investment in localized content, improved streaming technology, and a richer user experience.
