The Nigerian Army has provided reassurance to residents of Okuama community in Delta State following the tragic loss of four senior officers and 12 soldiers in the area.
The soldiers, from the 181 Amphibious Battalion, were killed during a peacekeeping mission amidst reported communal clashes between Okuama and Okoloba Communities in Ughelli South and Bomadi LGAs of Delta State.
In a statement released on Monday, Army spokesman Major General Onyema Nwachukwu acknowledged the complicity of the community in the attack but emphasized that there will be no retaliatory actions from the soldiers. Instead, he urged the community members to refrain from engaging in media propaganda and called upon them to assist in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators of the crime.
Major General Nwachukwu stated, “While law-abiding citizens can be assured that there will be no reprisals from the troops, we encourage everyone to resume their normal activities. Efforts are being intensified to apprehend and bring to justice those responsible for this heinous act.”
