Wale-Edun

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, removing Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, from the cabinet.

The decision was conveyed in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, who announced that Taiwo Oyedele has been elevated to replace Edun as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the ministry.

The memo also named Muttaqha Rabe Darma as ministerial nominee and Minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, while Dangiwa has been directed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry pending Darma’s confirmation.

According to the directive, “all handing over and taking over processes should be completed on or before close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.”

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Akume stated: “These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers in effecting the reshuffle, noting that the action was in line with “Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).”

Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours.

Akume further conveyed the President’s assurance to members of the cabinet that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, Yomi Odunuga, dated April 20, 2026.
