The United Kingdom has taken a major step toward phasing out smoking after a landmark bill aimed at creating a “smoke-free generation” successfully passed through both houses of Parliament.

The proposed legislation seeks to prohibit the sale of tobacco products to individuals born after 2008, effectively ensuring that younger generations will never be legally allowed to purchase cigarettes.

With parliamentary approval now secured, the bill awaits only the formal assent of King Charles III before it can be enacted into law.

If signed, the measure would mark one of the most stringent anti-smoking policies in the world, reflecting the UK government’s commitment to reducing smoking-related illnesses and deaths over time.
