Abba Kyari Gets Two-Week Bail to Bury Mother

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, a temporary two-week bail on compassionate grounds to allow him to bury his mother.

The bail was set at 50 million Naira with a surety in the same amount. The surety, who will be Kyari’s counsel in the matter, is required to deposit a copy of his call-to-bar certificate with the deputy registrar of the court.

Kyari must surrender his travel passport to the court and report to the nearest National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) office during the bail period. This bail order is pending a ruling on Kyari’s bail application scheduled for May 31, 2024.

Kyari’s mother, Yachilla Kyari, passed away on May 5, 2024. While it is not explicitly stated, this may have influenced the decision to grant him bail.

In 2021, Kyari was indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for his alleged involvement with international internet fraudster Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi. He was later arrested by the NDLEA in February 2022 for alleged drug-related offenses and has been held at Kuje prison in Abuja since then.
