-Ola Williams,
The Federal Government has confirmed a case of Ebola disease in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and has identified 44 close contacts for tracing to prevent further transmission.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, following laboratory confirmation of the case.
According to the minister, the 44 contacts have been identified as part of efforts to monitor possible exposure and stop the disease from spreading.
Contact tracing involves identifying and monitoring people who may have been exposed to an infected person, so that additional cases can be detected early and transmission limited.
Details of the case, including the patient’s condition, the likely source of infection and the locations where the contacts may have been exposed, were not immediately available.
The Federal Government is expected to release more information as the public health response progresses.
