The Nigerian Police have announced the arrest of foreign nationals suspected of sponsoring protests featuring the Russian flag in various parts of the country.
This development was disclosed by Police Commissioner Salman Garba following a security meeting with Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf on Tuesday.
“The police and other security agencies will clamp down on anyone trying to tamper with the security of the state,” said Garba.
The protests, primarily involving underage boys, saw participants chanting songs in Hausa and running through the streets. In response to the unrest, Garba also announced a further relaxation of the curfew from 6 am to 6 pm.
The nationwide #Endbadgovernance protests against hardship and hunger took a surprising turn on Monday, with protesters in some Northern states displaying the Russian flag while chanting “Tinubu must go.”
Human rights activists and prominent figures, such as Senior Advocate of Nigeria Femi Falana and Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Mustapha, have condemned the act. “This is a treasonable offence,” stated General Mustapha.
