President Bola Tinubu Issues Warning to Service Chiefs Against Working at Cross Purposes…

President Bola Tinubu has sent a strong message to the Service Chiefs and heads of security and intelligence agencies, stating that working at cross purposes will no longer be tolerated.

This statement came during Tinubu’s inaugural official meeting with the security and intelligence heads, led by Chief of Defence Staff General Lucky Irabor, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.

During the meeting, President Tinubu emphasized the need to combat oil theft, urging the service chiefs to take decisive action against anyone involved in this illegal activity. He emphasized that his administration will not tolerate such a menace. Tinubu also expressed his firm belief that Nigeria should not be brought to its knees by security challenges while other countries are making progress and achieving remarkable milestones.

Following the two-hour meeting, National Security Adviser Major Gen. Bafana Monguno (retd) briefed State House correspondents. He stated that the purpose of the meeting was to provide the President with updates on the activities of various security formations and for Tinubu to convey his expectations and philosophy to the security heads.

Monguno further revealed that the President has instructed the heads of security agencies to develop comprehensive blueprints to address the prevailing security issues.

This meeting served as a crucial platform for President Tinubu to engage with the heads of security agencies, marking the beginning of his administration’s strategic approach to national security. With the President’s firm warning against working at cross purposes and his call for a robust response to oil theft, it is clear that his government is committed to tackling security challenges and safeguarding the nation’s interests.

“First and foremost, he appreciated the armed forces and intelligence agencies and the wider paramilitary agencies for the work they have been doing in the past couple of years. Their sacrifice, their loyalty, and he also paid tribute to those who died in defending this country, from the great big menace of terrorism, insurgency banditry, oil theft, sea robbery, piracy, etc.

“The President has made it very clear that he’s determined to build on whatever gains that have been made and to reverse misfortunes and turn the tide in our favour. “As far as he’s concerned, this country should not be on its knees struggling while other countries are working and achieving greater heights.”

President Tinubu emphasized the need for security agencies to step up their efforts in propelling the country forward, highlighting that his philosophy centers around contemporary security measures that align with the demands of the present time. The National Security Adviser (NSA) stated that President Tinubu is determined not to accept a situation where the nation’s fortunes continue to decline. The President’s vision is focused on coordinated national security, advocating for the establishment of a clearinghouse or a similar mechanism to ensure effective collaboration among security agencies.

President Tinubu’s call for redoubled efforts from the security agencies is a clear indication of his commitment to improving the nation’s security landscape.

By emphasizing the need for contemporary security measures and a coordinated approach, he recognizes the evolving nature of threats and the necessity of adaptive strategies. Moving the country forward requires a proactive and unified response to challenges, and President Tinubu expects security agencies to play a pivotal role in achieving this objective.

Under President Tinubu’s leadership, it is evident that national security will be prioritized as a critical component of the nation’s progress. His vision for a clearinghouse or similar mechanism reflects his determination to create a platform for information sharing, collaboration, and effective decision-making among security agencies.

By aligning security efforts and adopting contemporary measures, President Tinubu aims to address the requirements of the time and ensure a safer and more prosperous future for the nation.

“He is going to embark on a lot of reforms in terms of our security architecture, he is going to take a closer look at our misfortunes in the maritime domain, focusing particularly on the issues of oil theft, that as far as he is concerned, he is not going to tolerate oil theft Wherever the problem is coming from it must be crushed as soon as possible.

He has already mandated the security agencies to come up with a blueprint as far as he knows and as far as he concerned, he doesn’t have the luxury of time. And whatever changes will be made have to be done as soon as possible.

“The President also has decided that what ever ventures the armed forces are going to be engaged in, they must carry along those operatives in the theatre. They must be well fed, well kitted, motivated and given all that they require.

“President has said clearly that he will do whatever is within his powers to enable the operational elements but the intelligence agencies must also make their work easy for them by providing the type of intelligence that they require to carry out the assignment.”
