The Department of Development Control, part of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has issued a 24-hour demolition notice to owners of 500 unauthorized markets and makeshift structures along the Karmo – Dei-Dei Road corridor in Abuja.

Mr. Garba Jibril, Sector Monitor and Assistant Director in the department, announced this on Monday during an operation in Abuja. He stated that the Director of Development Control, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, had previously held a sensitization meeting with stakeholders.

Jibril explained that the demolition is necessary to eliminate disturbances and significant traffic congestion caused by these structures, especially on market days.

He also noted that the FCTA has awarded a contract for the development of the Life Camp – Dei-Dei Road, but the presence of traders along the corridor is hindering the start of this project.

He emphasized the seriousness of the 24-hour notice, warning that non-compliance would lead to consequences for those involved.

Furthermore, traders have been instructed to relocate to the fully developed and equipped Karmo Market.
