The Aso Rock Presidential Villa will fully disconnect from Nigeria’s national electricity grid by March 2026 following the completion of its solar power project, the State House has announced.

The Permanent Secretary of the State House, Temitope Fashedemi, disclosed this while speaking on the Federal Government’s ongoing drive to make public institutions more energy efficient and less dependent on the unstable national grid.

According to Fashedemi, the solar power initiative at the Presidential Villa is in its final stages and is designed to provide reliable, clean, and cost-effective electricity to the complex, which houses the offices of the President, Vice President, and other key government departments.

“The project will ensure uninterrupted power supply at the Villa and significantly reduce our reliance on the national grid,” he said. “By March 2026, we expect the entire Aso Rock complex to be running independently on solar energy.”

He added that the move aligns with the administration’s broader energy transition agenda, aimed at cutting operating costs, reducing carbon emissions, and setting an example for other public and private institutions across the country.

The Aso Rock solar project is part of a wider plan to deploy renewable energy solutions across federal facilities, with the government encouraging ministries, departments and agencies to adopt similar measures to improve efficiency and sustainability.
